Lurrtjulu-la Palyanama

‘There’s lots in council and community meetings, they are all saying: be like your grandparents, but these young people grow up in a different way, not your mother or father way. They are standing up on their own feet and saying ‘look at me, I can do it’. Community Elder and key Wilurarra Creative supporter Mr T. Robinson

Lurrtjulu-la Palyanama celebrates the culture, artistic practice, collections and community of the Ngannyatjarra people.

The publication documents a year-long collaborative project between Wilurarra Creative and the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku. Throughout 2009 we presented events, performances and skills development activities focusing on the artistic history and current practice of established and emerging artists in Warburton, in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands WA.

Embedded in the ongoing program of Wilurarra Creative, this project built intergenerational links focused around evolving art practices, including painting, photography, fashion, music, sculpture and print media. This included using in-community collections as springboards for new work and new discussions.

Edited by Ben Fox, Kate Fielding, Delvina Lawson and Sherma Bates.

Supported by the Department of Culture and the Arts Western Australia through its Community Collections program.
