Here’s an action shot of me sitting backstage inflating pool toys: this was definitely the strangest piece of preparation work I’ve done for a speech.
At the recent Artlands conference in Dubbo I delivered a keynote on the topic of ‘A possible future for the arts in regional Australia’. I focused on the challenge of preparing for multiple futures, inspired by an excellent platform paper by the Regional Australia Institute.
To illustrate the challenge, I used a menagerie of inflatable pool toys and a battalion of audience members. You can read more, and check out a short video of me being pelted with pool toys, in this ArtsHub article.
Artlands was co-presented by Regional Arts Australia and Regional Arts NSW.
