Oral Histories

One of my favourite parts about being a historian is interviewing fascinating people.

I’ve interviewed firefighters, lighthouse keepers, Aboriginal Elders, drag queens, religious leaders and shipwreck divers.

I have conducted over 200 formal interviews for clients including the National Archives of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Heritage Victoria.

Check out this particularly lively interview with a diver, John Black. It’s part of a series of interviews I did for Heritage Victoria exploring the early history of diving in south-east Australia. The Good Hair Days films are built around oral history interviews in Indonesia.
