Mirndiyan Gununa

Since 2012, I have been working with Mirndiyan Gununa on strategic initiatives to increase their digital and intergenerational capacity.

Mirndiyan Gununa is an Aboriginal arts and culture organisation based on Mornington Island, a very remote island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland, Australia. This work has been done in partnership with Ben FoxJody Brown and Darren Reutens.

Our initial involvement included overhauling the organisation’s digital presence, piloting internet access and content development options, and strategies for diversified engagement.

This grew into the development of a purpose-built building with secure program funding. We recently completed the studio and computer systems fit-out and recruitment for the new Youth Hub, and have commenced an innovative program of activities including media and music.

The videos here are from the first few months of operations; check out the Mirndiyan Gununa website to see how the program develops. The photo above is from a light painting workshop run by Jody, whilst the photo below shows the barge poles for docking at Mornington Island, flanked by the Milky Way. The community relies on the weekly barge for fresh food and supplies.
